Important Information for WightFibre TV Customers

Freely is currently investigating an issue affecting all Freely TV devices, including the WightFibre TV PLEIO box.

    Customers may experience:

    • Black screens on some channels

    • Channel streaming errors (including ETV6056)

    • Certain channels failing to load correctly

    Current Advice from Freely:

Whilst Freely works on a permanent fix, customers are advised to:

    - Continue watching live TV channels through the TV Guide where possible.

    - BBC channels and BBC iPlayer can continue to be used as normal.

    - Other streaming apps that are not part of the Freely platform, such as Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+ and YouTube, can continue to be used as normal.

    - Avoid using the Restart feature on Freely channels where possible.

    - Avoid using Freely player apps, including:

    • ITVX

    • Channel 4

    • My5

Freely has advised that using these services may cause the issue to reoccur.

We're continuing to work closely with our partners and will provide further updates as soon as a permanent fix becomes available.

We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

    Investigating

We are aware of an issue affecting some customers using Freely, where certain channels may display a black screen or error code ETV6056.

Freely has confirmed that the issue is linked to a recent update to Microsoft's PlayReady DRM system, which has impacted a small number of device types and chipsets. Their team is continuing to work on a permanent fix.

What should I do if I'm affected?

If you are experiencing channel streaming issues, Freely advises performing a factory reset on your device. This should restore access to affected channels.

Please note that while a permanent solution is being developed, there is a possibility the issue could reoccur if:

    • You use the Restart feature on a channel, or

    • You launch content through a player app

Freely channels can still be accessed directly through the TV Guide.

    Latest Updates

Customers are encouraged to check Freely's support page for the latest information and guidance:

As part of our ongoing commitment to providing a reliable and resilient service, we will be carrying out essential maintenance on one of our core voice service platforms.

During this work, services will be temporarily routed through an alternative platform while we increase system storage capacity and perform routine checks. This helps ensure continued stability and reliable performance for our customers.

๐Ÿšฆ We do not expect any interruption to customer services, and all traffic will be managed through our backup platform throughout the maintenance window. However, as this work involves critical infrastructure, services will be considered at risk during this period.

Our engineers will be closely monitoring the platform before, during, and after the maintenance to ensure everything operates as expected and to minimise any potential impact. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”งโœ…

Following the earlier local power supply fault, mains power has now been fully restored to the network equipment serving the Newport area.

All affected services should be operating normally. If you are still experiencing any issues with your connection, please try rebooting your WightFibre Hub.

Our teams will continue to monitor the network to ensure services remain stable following the restoration of mains power.

We apologise for the disruption this has caused and thank you for your patience whilst we've been working on restoring service.

We have now secured a generator and our engineers are on site setting it up to restore power to the affected network equipment.

We expect affected broadband services to begin restoring shortly once the generator has been connected and tested. Our teams will continue to monitor the situation closely until normal mains power is restored.

Our engineers have identified that this outage is being caused by a mains power fault in the local area. SSE are currently investigating the issue and working to restore power as quickly as possible.

To help minimise disruption, we are actively exploring alternative options to restore service sooner, including arranging temporary generator power for the affected network equipment.

Services will remain unavailable for affected customers until power is restored or a temporary solution can be implemented. We will continue to provide updates as soon as we receive further information.
